All of UPC Ireland’s current operations, products and services will become Virgin Media from Monday 5 October.
In Dublin, Mr Branson held a Q&A with Irish entrepreneurs and said he was thrilled to bring the brand to Irish shores.
“This is a fantastic day for me and everyone at Virgin Media,” he declared. “We have a great foundation to build on and there are no limits to what we want to achieve for our customers.”
Virgin Media comes under Liberty Global plc, which has 27 million customers in 14 countries.
The company is launching a mobile service in Ireland as part of the rebrand, combining digital TV, broadband, mobile and landline in one bundle, or any individual selection.
Their mobile service will have unlimited calls, texts and data.
Three months will be free for their customers, with a €25 fee thereafter.
The CEO of Virgin Media in Ireland, Magnus Ternsjö, said: “Transforming the UPC business into Virgin Media will change the Irish telecommunications market for good.
“This all forms part of our strategy to build locally while serving our customers using the many advantages of our global presence as part of the world’s largest international cable company.”
