Local TV on MB Blog: STV Glasgow start tests on Freeview.

STV has launch STV Glasgow on Freeview Channel 23 ahead of it launch this coming Monday.

Q: WILL I GET STV GLASGOW ON MY FREEVIEW BOX?

A: If you can pick up POP (Channel 75) and Chart Show TV (Channel 67) you will need to reset your Freeview TV Set or Box.

Local TV on MB Blog: Three Local TV Broadcasters confirmed as launching on Virgin Media.

Media Boy HQ has found that both YourTV Manchester and YourTV Blackpool & Preston say their will be on Virgin Media from launch.

Sheffield Live also says they will also be available from launch on Virgin Media.

BBC: BBC reveal Commonwealth Games 2014 from Glasgow info.

From July 23rd to until August 3rd:

  • BBC Three and BBC Three HD will broadcast from 9am everyday until August 3rd.
  • To complement BBC One and BBC Three coverage, Virgin Media viewers will have the choice of up to seven extra streams on BBC Red Button (including one HD stream).
  • Those with access to BBC Connected Red Button will have the full range of up to 17 streams.

Smallworld: Scheduled maintenance for Smallworld viewers on June 2nd.

Smallworld Cable has confirmed that they will do 'scheduled maintenance' on June 2nd:

Work has been scheduled for Monday 02/06/14 between 11:30pm and 6:00am the next day.

BBC to launch BBC Red Button 2 in June?

The extra red button stream is permitted to be on air by Ofcom from 16th June to until August 4th.

Do this mean that BBC Red Button 2 will relaunch on Virgin Channel 992?

Advanced Television: Turner set to launch TRUtv in UK.

Advanced Television is reporting that Turner Broadcasting will launch its first free-to-air TV channel in the UK this summer – general entertainment network TruTV.

The 24-hour channel will air on an unconfirmed slot on the Freeview, Freesat and YouView platforms.

Distribution deals with Sky and Virgin Media are expected to be revealed shortly.

MB Views: When will new Sky Sports HD launch on Virgin Media?

My new source told me last night that Sky Sports 3 HD, Sky Sports 4 HD and Sky Sports F1 HD channels will launch in Summer 2014.

But DS Forum poster did report that they are now testing on Virgin Media.

So Media Boy HQ think that the new Sky Sports HD - but not Sky Sports News HD - will launch on Virgin Media by Mid June.

Local TV on MB Blog: STV confirmed STV Glasgow will be on Virgin Media and Freeview Channel 23.

STV has confirmed that STV Glasgow will broadcast on Freeview (23), Sky (117) and Virgin Media (159) from June 2nd.

Sky: Sky and Virgin Media strike major new channel distribution agreement.

Sky and Virgin Media have agreed a new five year plus agreement for the distribution of Sky’s content to Virgin Media’s TV customers.

Through the agreement, Virgin Media will continue to offer its customers an extensive selection of Sky’s leading entertainment channels, as well as content from Sky Movies and Sky Sports.

In addition to its current portfolio of Sky channels, Virgin Media will also offer its TV customers Sky Sports 3 HD, Sky Sports 4 HD, and Sky Sports F1 HD, with Sky Sports News HD and Sky News HD to follow.

Guardian: All3Media sold to Discovery and Liberty Global in deal worth £500m.

The Guardian has reporting that Discovery and Liberty Global (Who own Virgin Media, Smallworld and UPC Ireland) has takeover the makers of Skins and Midsomer Murders in the deal worth £500m.

All3Media make TV Hits for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and MTV.

Radio Today: Heart arrives in former Real Radio areas.

Info from Radio Today:

After weeks of being told Heart is Coming, 2.3 million listeners to Real Radio are waking up to the arrival of Heart this morning. Heart is now on FM for the first time in South and Mid Wales, Scotland, Yorkshire, the North West and North East.

Toby Anstis will air from 10am, Matt Wilkinson hosts afternoons from 1pm, local programmes 4pm till 7pm then Roberto, Jenny Francis, Simon Beale and Jenni Falconer through to local breakfast again at 6am.

The Heart brand is owned and operated by Global Radio in all areas with the exception of North Wales and Yorkshire where it is franchised to Communicorp.

BBC News: Viacom to buy Channel 5 for £450m.

US media group Viacom has agreed to buy the UK's Channel 5 for £450m, it has been announced. Viacom, the owner of MTV, will be acquiring the channel from Richard Desmond's Northern & Shell group - subject to regulatory approval.

Media Boy HQ think Viacom may do the following with all the Channel 5 channels:

  • Channel 5 (Stay as now).
  • Channel 5 +1 (Stay as now).
  • Channel 5 HD (Stay as now)
  • Channel 5 +24 (VIVA may move to slot on Freeview)
  • Channel 5 +24 (Viacom may launch CMT or Spike HD on Virgin and Sky).
  • 5USA (Viacom may rebrand as Spike).
  • 5USA +1 (Viacom may rebrand as Spike +1).
  • 5* (Viacom may rebrand as Land TV).
  • 5* +1 (Viacom may rebrand as Land TV +1).
  • VIVA (Viacom can now give up it slot on COM6 and move to Viacom's slot on SDN.)
