Local TV on MB Blog: Made in Bristol TV coming to Virgin Media.

Made in Bristol has confirmed tonight via twitter that they will launch on Virgin Media (Bristol area) sometime in 2014 on Virgin Channel 159.

Virgin Media relaunches BBC Red Button 2.

Virgin Media has added BBC Red Button 2 to Virgin Channel 992.

ITV to launch ITV Encore only on Sky.

ITV plc today announced that it would be launching ITV Encore this year, a new pay channel dedicated to the very best of the broadcaster's great British drama.

ITV Encore, which will be available on Sky's platforms, will be ITV's first brand new channel launch in eight years and forms part of a wider four year partnership with Sky.

Ofcom has today given Bay TV the rights to broadcast on Freeview channel 26 in Wales in the following areas.

  • Mold: Bay TV Clwyd
  • Swansea: Bay TV Swansea

I can now confirmed that two local TV test transmissions has today been launch by COMUX in Scotland in the Blackhill areas the following can be pick up on Channel 51 in the local area:

  • 791. Local TV 1 Test
  • 792. Local TV 2 Test

Virgin Media: Some changes set to happen in the next month.

From the Virgin Media website....


A few slight changes to our channel line ups over the next few weeks:
  • Channel 5* + 1 (Virgin Channel 152) is due to close on Monday the 3rd of February and will be replaced with a brand new channel called Channel 5 +24 on Tuesday 4th February. This is a new entertainment channel but is not a direct 24 hours replay of previous content and will be available on the same Virgin Channel 152 from 7pm to just after midnight (Tellyshopping will be shown outside 00.00 and 19.00).
  • Also in February, Sky Movies Drama & Romance / HD will be temporary changing their channel name to Sky Valentine and Sky Valentine HD from February 1st until February 17th on Virgin Channels 408 and in HD on Channel 438.

London Local TV broadcaster has confirmed that London Live will launch on March 31st 2014.

Virgin Viewers in London can watch London Live from launch on Virgin Channel 159 and also on Freeview Channel 8.

BBC to relaunch BBC Red Button 2 for the Winter Olympics.

The BBC has today confirmed the following coverage for the Winter Olympics (Information right as of January 9th):

  • Over 200 hours of coverage from the event in Sochi, Russia, on BBC Two and BBC Two HD,
  • Over 650 hours of coverage on six HD streams via TiVo.
  • And the relaunch of BBC Red Button 2 (To all Virgin Media viewers).

The Winter Olympics runs from February 7th to February 23rd on the following Channels:

  • BBC One - Virgin Channel 101.
  • BBC Two - Virgin Channel 102.
  • BBC One HD - Virgin Channel 108.
  • BBC Two HD - Virgin Channel 162.
  • BBC Radio Five Live - Virgin Channel 905.
  • BBC Red Button 1 - Virgin Channel 991.
  • BBC Red Button 2 - Virgin Channel 992*. 

*Channel number still to be confirmed.

Virgin Media: CBS Reality & Horror Channel now available on M+.

Virgin Media last night (January 6th) posted the following on the Virgin Media Forum web site:

Following the recent free to air promotion we're pleased to announce the wider availability of two of CBS's popular channels.

CBS Reality (Virgin Channel 148) and Horror Channel (Virgin Channel 149) are now available on the M+ up as we also introduce +1 options for both of these fantastic channels.

Horror Channel +1 (Virgin Channel 202) and CBS Reality +1 (Virgin Channel 201).

Returning to their original tiers, CBS Action (Virgin Channel 192) remains available on M+ up whilst CBS Drama (Virgin Channel 197) is available on the XL package.

Confirmed: Premier Sports to cost £7.99 per month from March.

Virgin Media has confirmed that from March 1st 2014 Premier Sports will cost £7.99 per month*.

Premier Sports can be found on Virgin Channel 551.

*Media Boy Blog first reported the price of Premier Sports way back in October 2013 base on information by Virgin Media insiders.
