Virgin Media to launch BBC One HD Northern Ireland.

From Wednesday at 6am Viewers in Northern Ireland will stop getting the BBC One HD Channel as the BBC will launch BBC One HD Northern Ireland on Virgin Channel 108.

Confirmed: Virgin has "constant discussions" for Sky Atlantic.

The following is thanks to Guardian.co.uk.

''Eamonn O'Hare, chief financial officer at Virgin Media said that Virgin Media has so far "not seen any impact" from the rival YouView service.

"We don't want to be complacent about it, it is going to be a competitive threat," he said. "YouView is getting its act together right now".

He added that in one sense Virgin Media could capitalise on YouView's arrival as to get the best out of the service customers will need high-speed internet connections.

He would not be drawn on whether Virgin has entered discussions in to carrying BT's new pay-TV sports channel, which will carry Premier League football and rugby, but said that he expected BT would see value in doing a deal to reach the cable company's 4m TV households.

Virgin Media has still not struck a deal it feels is commercially viable to carry Sky Atlantic, O'Hare said there were "constant discussions".''

UPDATE: BBC Changes from October.

THIS POST WAS UPDATED ON OCTOBER 3RD AT 23.55.

The BBC has confirm that from October 15th 2012 the BBC will be reducing the number of BBC Red Button video streams on Virgin Media to one (On all non TiVo power boxes.)'

The following is from the BBC web site:

BBC One HD for the nations

We will be launching BBC One HD for Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland over the next few months. I’ll update you with exact dates when we have them confirmed. We are launching them across all of our broadcast platforms so the channels will be available subscription-free on Sky HD, Freeview HD, Virgin Media and Freesat HD at the same position in the EPG where BBC One HD is currently found.

BBC Two HD as a priority, and I’m pleased to confirm that plans announced earlier this year to convert BBC HD into BBC Two HD are progressing towards completion next year.

UPDATE: Virgin Media called off Africa.

For the first time ever that I know off Virgin Media has postphone and remove The Africa Channel from Virgin Channel 828.

No news yet on when Virgin plan to launch The Africa Channel but I did seen that the EPG on Channel 828 was saying on October 1st - 'Coming Soon' until Sunday night (October 8th) - so we may not see this channel reappear until early next week.

UPDATED at 12.50pm on October 2nd:

Virgin have just posted the following on their own forums:

"The launch of The Africa Channel has been postponed until further notice. This was scheduled to go live today (Tuesday 2nd October) on channel number 828 for M+, L and XL customers.

We will update once a new date has been confirmed."
